Schubert: Quartettsatz D. 703

Bach: Violin Concerto in E Major
Robin Sharp, violinist

Bartok: Divertimento for Strings

The heart of every orchestra is the string section: the largest and most prominently displayed. Exploring the vast array of expressive possibilities of these instruments, we open our season with J.S. Bach’s effervescent Violin Concerto in E Major, performed by  concertmaster Robin Sharp. This concerto displays the violinist’s technical command, along with her sense of emotion, poetry, fantasy and wit — truly a creation of purest Bachian splendor! Then follows Bela Bartok’s great Divertimento for Strings, music in which the folk melodies and rhythms of Bartok’s native Hungary are transformed through his genius into a dramatic and beautiful essay to showcase the virtuosity of our string section.
