After an incredible debut conducting the SFCO in May of 2023…..

Jory has performed as a violinist and violist with the SFCO for over 15 years and now takes on a new role as Principal Conductor. We’re excited for him to share his incredible creativity, musicianship and humanity with us from the podium!

As a violinist, conductor, and composer, Jory Fankuchen has built a reputation as an engaging performer of many genres, as well as a passionate pedagogue. Jory appears as a regular guest conductor with the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, and is music director of the Civic Strings orchestra. Chamber music has always been the driving force behind Jory's passion for music. He serves on the faculty of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, Young Chamber Musicians, and has been a visiting lecturer at Cornell University. He holds a B.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory, and an M.M. from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Ian Swensen and Lucy Chapman, respectively.
